Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo

Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo (Korean) - Wang So & Hae Soo/Ha Jin

I admit I skimmed through this because I was only looking for scenes with Wang So and Hae Soo (but that does not mean I completely disregarded everything else).

I found it adorable that the “big bad wolf” is actually just a dog who wants to be loved. And that is what Wang So, the fourth prince, wanted. He wanted to be accepted by his family and the people of the palace and town, regardless of his scar he received when he was a child and that he killed to save the people he loved. Hae Soo was one of the first to accept him. She was not afraid of him or anything when she saw his scar. And I think that that is one of the reasons why he fell in love with her. It is sad that basically everyone else accepted him when his scar was covered up with makeup Hae Soo made for him.

And poor Ha Jin. She drowned and woke up in the 900's. She had to live her life as Hae Soo. And in being herself (Ha Jin), almost all of the princes fell in love with her or developed some kind of feeling that was more than friendly or brotherly. And she was accused of wrongdoings that she had no hand or knowledge in. But she fell in love with Wang So and had him to help get her through.

Now the last episode was sad. First, they could not get married (at least not have her as a first queen) because of the scar on her wrist and her being a maid. Then when Wang So found out that Hae Soo fell in love with the eighth prince first before him and everything that happened between her and the eighth, he said he never wanted to see her ever again. After she left the palace because she was granted permission from the prior king to marry the fourteenth prince (this was her only way out), she wrote him letters because she wanted to see Wang So before she died as she was getting sicker. In the letters, she did not say she was pregnant with his child. He received her letters but he did not know they were from her because the fourteenth had changed the envelope since Wang So and Hae Soo's writing were so similar and Wang So thought the fourteenth was asking for ridiculous things. In the end, he did not know about her at all until her death that took place just hours or a few days after their daughter was born. That is when he opened the envelopes and finally read one of her letters. He then fled on horse to her house where he saw her urn. He then took her back to the palace with him. About six years later, he sees their daughter. I don't know if he completely realized that she is his daughter but I would like to think he did. He told the fourteenth to leave her and the fourteenth said that it was Hae Soo's wish for her to grow up outside of the palace so that she would not have to deal with the hardships that palace life demanded of people, especially the women.

In the last few minutes, Ha Jin wakes up and thinks everything was a dream she has been having for the past year since she drowned. She eventually goes to an art exhibit that features art from the 900's. There, she realizes everything was not a dream and that she was actually there. She looks at one piece that shows Wang So standing in the empty palace courtyard, looking up at the palace. She starts crying and says sorry for leaving him behind. When he is shown in the courtyard in full context this time, he says that if she is from another world, he will find her.

Viewers of the show want a second season to see if Wang So and Hae Soo/Ha Jin finally end up together. I would like to see that too but I do not think that it will happen. If it does, awesome. If it does not, that is okay. I have my imagination that thinks they do get together in the present day.
