Devil Beside You (Taiwanese) - Ah Meng & Qi Yue
I enjoyed this drama. The only downside to this show was that they sped through so a million plots in, like, two seconds flat. One of the story lines was Ah Meng's brother, Ah Rang, suddenly showing up, saying he likes Qi Yue, and also saying that he'll basically let the whole world know about their (Qi Yue and Ah Meng's) relationship. That only lasted, like, two episodes. The other story was a sudden arranged dating thing between Ah Meng and another girl. Didn't last very long.
Another thing I didn't like was how after the first several episodes or so, they left out Xiao Cai (Qi Yue's other friend) and the gang. Only Yuan Yi and Qing Zi were in every episode and Yang Ping and Li Xiang once in a while after the first several episodes. Only the episode where the substitute teacher was having a relationship problem and the final episode was when the entire gang (still excluding Xiao Cai) made their appearances. I don't like how Xiao Cai didn't seem to be all that important. It's like, if you're not going to use her somewhere in the show, don't include her at all.
One thing I found funny, that I always reacted to, was some of the reactions in the beginning of the show. One example is when Qi Yue was wanting to give Yuan Yi a love letter (which he bypasses without seeing her). When she looks up, there is Ah Meng with a big grin on his face. I pushed myself against my wall after being "scared". You know how the Taiwanese are with their reactions. They take it to the next level: Over-react. I always over-reacted given the circumstances on some of the things. Like, say, waking up in a "stranger's" house with your future step-father standing over you.
Besides that, I felt sorry for Yang Ping because he was always in love with Li Xiang and he was on the sidelines watching her fawn over Ah Meng. Eventually they get together. One thing I found funny between them was that the gang, Yuan Yi, Li Xiang, Qi Yue, and Xing Zi played hide-and-go-seek. Whoever won (by not being found) would get the prize of kissing the person they like. Well, the first person to be found was Li Xiang. Yang Ping was the winner. When Yang Ping is starting to mention the person he likes, he says, "Li-" and Li Xiang cuts him off by basically threatening him. He then says, "Li Xiang," and everyone is like, "Ooohhh!!!" because he likes her while she's threatening him once again. He then says that a kiss on the cheek is also fine so as she's leaning forward to give him a kiss on the cheek, Ah Meng steps up behind Yang Ping, and at the exact right moment, Ah Meng turns Yang Ping's head to get Li Xiang to kiss Yang Ping on the lips! Yay!!! Everyone was basically jumping for joy and stuff.
And then the saddest part of the show: Ah Meng accepts going to Italy with his mother. After his father and Qi Yue's mother got married, Ah Meng departed, leaving poor Qi Yue behind. One year later, (in the winter), he returns and immediately kisses her when he approaches her.
There were times I wondered how their relationship would work out because they would be step-siblings and there were times I forgot that they would be step-siblings. In the end, I quite enjoyed this show, even with its speedy plot lines.
